Getting a bit heady-fermenting a new idea
My FOUR brains.
Our anatomical brain is regarded as our “1st brain.”
Our GI tract is known as our “2nd brain.”
Our gut microbiota is now being referred to as our “3rd brain.”
Ideas of non-pathologic microbe movement through the blood-brain barrier is aided by immune modulation (i.e., carried by macrophages). This idea goes beyond the GI microbe effect on neuro-signaling through the vagus nerve. This means live healthy microbes (machines) are setting up shop in our brains.
The Brain Microbiome.
Keep an eye out for referral to our 4th brain
The conditions of the environment and soil our food was grown in. The local conditions and associated microbiome (bacterial-, fungal-, and viral-…) interactions are affecting strung together molecular metabolites (our building blocks). This WILL BE SHOWN to affect our health in positive and negative ways.
Take-away: This goes well beyond capsules of probiotics.
Eat a diverse, clean, locally grown and seasonal diet. Grown in your yard can be a bonus. It reflects the optimal conditions supported by your healthy microbes entering your body.
Ferment what you can in house.
Caring about the health of all of my brains.
